I’m in the process of gathering notes for a new book I’ll be writing this year. One of the topics to be covered in the book is the importance of focus. And man oh man I can tell you how important it is for you stay focused on what you want.

Consider this – whether you realize it or not, you are getting bombarded with thousands of advertising and marketing messages every single day. Not to mention all the other things vying for your attention; the kids, the spouse, the boss, the clients. It’s no wonder you, or anybody else for that matter, has trouble staying focused on important objectives.

However, you owe it to yourself – to your long term success – to learn how to stay focused. And believe me this is something I know all too well. Like all of my most important lessons, it’s something I had to learn the hard way.

When I made the decision to market my business on the internet I needed to learn everything from the ground up. What I quickly discovered is there are a ton of different ways a product or service could be marketed online.

For a few months I tried every marketing method I came across; I tried to do everything and wound up doing nothing. The moment things began to change was the day I decided I needed to focus on a single method until I got it right. Then, and only then, could I try other methods.

5) Never give up – this is most important quality you can have. Network marketing success is never an entitlement, it is something that must be earned. How committed are you to your own success?

Go ahead and ask a hundred different people how committed they are to their own success and there’s no doubt each one of them will tell you they’re completely committed to living a successful, more fulfilled life. After all, we all want the best life has to offer, do we not?

The answer of course is ABSOLUTELY!

How is it done? The glaring question is how do you become successful in life? If most everyone wants more out of life, why do so few actually get it?

The answer lies in a person’s ability to handle adversity. How to succeed in life is lost on those who are incapable of handling life’s challenges. Too many people are willing to cut and run at the first signs of difficulty. You’ve got to learn that things will ALWAYS get difficult from time to time. Cutting and running is no strategy for handing a challenge.

Your commitment to success will be frequently challenged. And it is the strength of your commitment which will determine whether you stand up to those challenges or run from them. To get through the challenges you must focus on your objectives. You must put all of your focus on where you are going to, not what you’re going through. Health Care Reform & Economic Stimulus & Bailouts, Oh My!

So Washington passed a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s healthcare system and President Barak Obama signed it into law. The legislation has a price tag of just south of one trillion dollars. Add that to the 14 trillion we already owe. This almost incomprehensible sum of money has to come from somewhere but where exactly? Well, from you the taxpayer of course.

The news of this one trillion dollar healthcare overhaul really got me thinking. It really made me realize how insignificant external affairs are to one’s own personal achievement. Can any governmental decision have an impact on how to succeed in life?

So many people today are in favor of what our government is doing with the economy, healthcare, foreign affairs and other issues. Meanwhile, an equal number are not for it in the least. But seriously, do any of these issues have anything to do with your own personal success?

For over two centuries now there has been a government in place making decisions on the direction of America. And during that entire time there have always been two schools of people; one in favor of these decisions and one against. Has any governmental decision ever held a person back from achieving all they’re capable of?

The answer is a resounding NO! Or, to put it another way, it will only have an impact on your level of success if you allow it to.

Throughout history, whatever may have been going on in the economy and regardless of the decisions made by the government, there have always been people who have done very, very well for themselves. How to succeed in life has never been a function of governmental decisions or any other external circumstances for that matter.

So whether or not you agree with the decisions the Obama administration is making on healthcare, the economy or whatever, it should have no impact on your success.

Yes, the decisions of government frequently force us to look at things in a different way. But, this is always a very good thing. Those who can adapt to a changing environment are the ones who will always do well and succeed. While those who do will be left in the dust.

Even if you fail to see the bright side of a governmental decision, at least understand that it will have little to no impact on how you can succeed in life. Success has always been and will always continue to be a personal responsibility.

Those who get hung up on external affairs as reasons why they’re not able to make it in life or in business are living in victimhood. And the harsh reality is that there is no such thing as a successful victim.

Those who rise above external circumstances and take personal responsibility for their own lives are the ones who will survive and thrive.

So whether or not you agree with this historic health care overhaul passed by President Barak Obama, you’ve got to understand that it truthfully has zero impact on your potential for success.

One thing you can do to make sure you keep yourself from falling victim to any external circumstances is to submerge yourself in positivity. This may sound simplistic but it’s true, it works. There is no better way to do that than to read a good, uplifting book.

Doing so will help you to filter the circumstances and negativity out of your life.

You Can Get More By Giving More

I recently read a book entitled The Go-Giver by Burg & Mann – in fact I’ve read it multiple times. I’m not necessarily endorsing the book but what I will say is it’s one of the best business books I’ve read recently.

The basic message of the book is one of reciprocity; that in order to receive anything in life you must first give. I’ve read tons of business books and the lessons taught in The Go-Giver – a seemingly simple little 130 page book – are essential for success in today’s economy.

The most important lesson is this: you must give freely without want in order to get.

This lesson holds particular importance especially in today’s economic climate. People today are very cautious about what they do with their money. They won’t want to do business with somebody if they do not first trust that person and see them as a valuable resource.

The days of a slick ad campaign or standing at the top of a mountain screaming that you’re the best are no longer effective vehicles for success. This new, emerging economy demands that you prove your value to others first before they’ll want to do business with you.

You can do this by freely giving value without expecting or asking for something in return. I’ve personally put this lesson into practice in my own life and business and it’s truly a miracle to see what has happened.

How To Find And Recruit The Right People For Your Network Marketing Business

Learning how to recruit for your home based network marketing business is, by far, the most important success activity you will perform. Let’s face it, everything else you might do to grow your business will be meaningless if you’re not finding good quality people for your organization.

Successful network marketing recruiting means having standards for the people you’ll bring into your business. It does not mean having an open door policy and being willing to recruit just anybody with a heartbeat.

It’s easy for you to have an open door policy for your business especially when it’s new and you’re just starting out. But, it’s important that you at least operate with having it in mind that you’ll use some discretion to really build your network marketing organization successfully.

This is such an important point for you to understand so consider the following.

Those who you’ll be bringing into your network marketing organization will be relying upon you for assistance and direction in building their own business. As their sponsor it is your responsibility to be there for them. And it’s good business for you. After all, the more successful the people in your downline the more successful you’ll become.

You will find that the key to your success will be to find people who are serious about their own success.

You can give another person all the help in the world and the best systems and marketing tools you have. But, if they’re not committed to their own success then all the help you provide will be for naught.

Your objective should be to find people who are coachable and trainable. You want people on your team who require guidance so you can lead them to their own successful network marketing business.

On the other hand, you will find that you’ll be literally pushing those who are not taking their own success seriously. Trying to coach this type of person will be a fruitless exercise in frustration.

The important points to remember are you will be able to pull a person towards success but you’ll never be able to push them towards success.

The following analogy will make this point crystal clear.

Picture a 12 inch piece of string sitting on a table in front of you. Grab hold of either end of the string and pull. You will see that the string flows nicely along in the direction it’s being pulled.

Now, holding the same end, try pushing the string in the opposite direction and what happens? The string no longer flows. It gets all bunched up and goes nowhere.

You’ll never be able to push the string to where you want it to go but pulling it is a different matter entirely.
And so it is with the people you’ll be bringing on board your business. Find the ones you can pull and avoid, at all costs, the ones who require pushing and prodding.

So how is it done? How do you find those types of people? The answer is really pretty simple; you’ll want to interview your prospects to uncover their motivations for starting a business.

You’ll want to determine for yourself that they have an entrepreneurial mindset and will be approaching network marketing as the serious business that it is and not just a hobby.

Are You Knocking Yourself Out for Earned Income

Yesterday I posted an article yesterday to this blog comparing residual income to earned income. I’d have to say that it’s a pretty informative, very easy to understand article and I think you’d really enjoy it. A video discussing these two types of incomes was also included. Residual income is so important to financial security in today’s world that I’d like to use this week’s edition of the Tuesday Tip to discuss it with you a bit more.

To put residual income in its proper context let’s first highlight a few points about earned income. The vast majority of people rely upon earned income as their sole source of money. Earned income is given to a worker in the form of a paycheck. Two major problems with this type of income are: 1 – earning it puts the worker on a never ending treadmill, and 2 – it can be taken away in an instant.

1 – a person wakes up in the morning, goes to work for 8 hours a day, goes back home, eats dinner, goes to sleep just to wake up and start the cycle all over again. They essentially live to work which results in a treadmill with no end in sight.

2 – I think we’ve seen all the evidence we need to see that a job can be taken away literally overnight. With millions of people having lost their jobs over the past few years you can see for yourself that there is no such thing anymore as job security. Even teachers and police officers are being laid off – nobody is safe today. What this tells you is earned income is very insecure.

On the other hand, residual income is a stream of income received for some type of work completed once. An example of this might be a recording artist who produces a CD. Once completed, every time a copy of that CD is sold the artist receives a residual income payment on the sale.

Obviously there aren’t too many of us with the talent required to produce a CD; especially one that others would actually want to buy. So, the question then begs, how can the average person create themselves a residual income?

The answer lies in having a network marketing home based business. The foundation of the network marketing business model is based on residual income. When you have a network marketing business you’re building an organization. Once built, the efforts of those within your organization will provide you with that all important stream of residual income.

Your level of income will be determined by you and once built, your minimal involvement is required to keep the income stream going.

Is it easy to build a network marketing business? No it is not and don’t ever let anybody tell you otherwise. But I can absolutely guarantee that once you have developed your network marketing business and your residual income stream, the effort required will always be very well worth it.
